Our 2013 Nanny of the Year is Amity May! Amity has been a nanny with ANI since 2009 and was our February 2013 Nanny of the Month. She continues to be one of our most popular On-Call nannies (even our own Placement Director Teah requests Amity for her daughter).
When families are emailed a confirmation that Amity will be their nanny, it isn’t uncommon to hear responses like “Awesome, she’s great!” or “That is terrific news!” We at Annie’s Nannies love Amity for her dependability and good humor. We know we can count on her for On-Call jobs, hotel jobs, and events with children of all ages (and personalities)! It’s a privilege to work with a nanny who consistently displays her dedication to childcare in unique and creative ways. We adore you Amity May!

We know that our Nannies often put the needs of others before their own needs. After all, a Nanny’s profession is centered around the care of others, the children they love, and the family they support. This is good and meaningful work! It is often loads of fun but it can also wear you out! In order to stay strong and happy (and engaged in your job), it’s important to also take the same care for yourself.
The following “55 Gentle Ways To Take Care of Yourself When You’re BUSY BUSY BUSY” is a nice list of practices. My favorites include anything to do with getting enough sleep or rest, exercise and eating well, pursuing creative endeavors, meditating, and being goofy!
This article differentiates between Self-Care, Self-Pampering (Ok!) and Self-Indulgence. Something to think about!
Take what you like and discard won’t doesn’t work for you. Make your own self-care list, do what you can, and don’t beat yourself up for not doing everything on your list. Lastly, talk to yourself with kindness and care for your own needs the way you would the children you care for!

Are you curious about how to handle automobile insurance as a nanny driving children? Let us answer your questions by checking out today’s blog about general insurance information!
Automobile insurance provides coverage for family members who cause injury or property damage while driving an automobile. Unfortunately, there are many exclusions and exceptions. A nanny is PROBABLY covered while she is driving the family’s automobile, but to be safe, the family should add the nanny to the policy as an additional insured.

Spring is coming! What better way to kick off spring than with sharing April’s National Poetry Month with your little ones? Children’s poetry can be silly and stimulating. It can help teach children to relate words and feelings more quickly. Studies show that when children participate in art, it engages their senses and wires the brain for successful learning. During a child’s early years, this is tremendously important as neural connections are being made at a rapid rate. Plus poetry is fun!
In honor of National Poetry Month, King County Libraries will be holding a series of FREE performances by The South Side Dance Force based on the work of local children’s poet Erik Korhel’s new book The Kid With The Red Juice Mustache and Other Nostalgic Companions with illustrations by Celia Marie Baker.
